This is a practical preparation guide, not a USCIS requirements checklist or legal advice.
Give the camera a clear view.
Lay the document flat on a plain surface in even light. Move away from direct reflections, especially on a plastic green card. Hold your phone above the document so all four corners are visible and the text is in focus.
Use the native GreenCardFile mobile app’s camera scanner to capture and crop the document. If you already have a clear scan, upload the file instead. Camera scanning is a mobile-app feature; the web app supports file uploads.
- Keep fingers and other objects away from the text and edges.
- Check the crop before accepting it. Names, dates, stamps, and signatures should not be cut off.
- Retake a blurred or reflective scan. A filter cannot restore text the camera did not capture.
- Do not edit the document’s content. Correct your form answers separately if needed.
Check every side and page.
The green-card step separates the front and back so you can check each image. For a multi-page marriage certificate, capture the pages together and review the whole set. Make sure the sequence is right and no page was accidentally repeated or missed.
Before continuing, open the images and zoom in on small text. Do not rely on a thumbnail alone to judge readability. Keep your original documents; a scan is a working copy, not a replacement for the original.
Let the scan help, then check the details.
GreenCardFile reads supported details from the green-card front and marriage certificate. You check the results on the details screen, edit anything that needs correcting, and confirm before those values become form answers.
Pay particular attention to middle names, date formats, and the place of marriage. A readable scan can still be misread. If the document does not contain an answer, supply it yourself rather than treating a guess as a fact.
Your phone can be the starting point.
You can collect documents, confirm details, and answer questions on your phone. If you want a larger view later, link the filing to an email or Google account and use that same account on your computer. A guest session alone cannot connect your work across devices.
Preparing on a phone is different from submitting a petition. GreenCardFile does not submit anything to USCIS, and its current form preview is a draft. Learn what to check in your form preview before moving on.
Before you file
Check the current form, instructions, and filing information on the official USCIS I-751 page (opens in a new tab). A document collection or form preview is not confirmation that you have met the filing requirements. For advice about your situation, speak with a qualified immigration attorney or accredited representative.
